Toronto also ranked 6th among all of North America's public universities, as well as 11th among public schools worldwide, the same position it held during the last year’s results. The University continues to occupy its highest highest-ever position since the ranking system was first launched in 2003.

The ShanghaiRanking Consultancy scrutinizes more than 2,500 institutions on a yearly basis and publishes a list of the top 1,000 performers across the globe. The other four Canadian universities that are placed within the top 100 of the list are the University of British Columbia (44th), McGill University (73rd), McMaster University (90th), and the University of Alberta (92nd).
