Published 08 September 2022

The ShanghaiRanking Consultancy recently released its 2022 Academic Ranking of World Universities, with the University of Toronto (U of T) ranked the best university in Canada and 22nd in the world.

Toronto also ranked 6th among all of North America's public universities, as well as 11th among public schools worldwide, the same position it held during the last year’s results. The University continues to occupy its highest highest-ever position since the ranking system was first launched in 2003.

President of U of T, Meric Gertler said "The University of Toronto is consistently recognized as one of the world’s leading universities. Across a wide range of fields, U of T scholars and researchers are advancing knowledge and understanding, while addressing the most pressing global challenges of our time.”

The ShanghaiRanking Consultancy scrutinizes more than 2,500 institutions on a yearly basis and publishes a list of the top 1,000 performers across the globe.  The other four Canadian universities that are placed within the top 100 of the list are the University of British Columbia (44th), McGill University (73rd), McMaster University (90th), and the University of Alberta (92nd).
