Scholarships at Wilfrid Laurier University

When you apply to Laurier, you’re automatically considered for an entrance scholarship if you are:

• Attending postsecondary for the first time.

• Starting your degree at Laurier with fewer than 4.0 university credits previously attempted (at any university) or less than 1 year of full-time college education.

Entrance scholarships are offered based on your admission average as of July 2023.

Entrance Scholarship Values

If your average is 95% or higher, we will award you with the President's Gold Scholarship, which is worth $4,000, for your first year at Laurier. If you maintain the eligibility requirements, you will receive another $4,000 per year for four years (or up to five for some programs).

This scholarship is automatically renewable if you achieve an annual GPA (grade point average) of 10.5 or higher based on the completion of a minimum of 5.0 full credits during the past academic year.

President’s Gold Scholarships are granted upon admission and are renewable for subsequent academic years if all of the renewal requirements are met:

• You must achieve a minimum of a 10.5 GPA in courses taken in the previous academic year (September through August).

• You must have completed a minimum of 5.0 credits (or 10 half credits) in the previous academic year at Laurier (September through August).

• If more than 5.0 credits are taken in an academic year, the GPA from all courses completed in an academic year will be used to determine renewal eligibility.

• To be eligible for renewal, recipients of the President's Gold Scholarship must be registered full time in two of the three terms from September through August (therefore a minimum of 2.0 credits pert term, in at least 2 of the 3 terms in the prior academic year).

• If the renewal requirements are not met in each academic year, the President's Gold Scholarship will not be renewed and cannot be renewed in a subsequent academic year. However, students would then automatically be assessed for an in-course scholarship.

Seven students will be selected to receive a $40,000 entrance scholarship. The Laurier Scholars Award includes $7,500 per year for up to four years and an experiential learning award of $10,000. The experiential award may be used to fund a summer research assistantship, international exchange or another hands-on learning opportunity that connects in-class knowledge to learning experiences outside the classroom. 

Students are required to meet the eligibility criteria to be considered for the Laurier Scholars Award, which includes:

• attending a postsecondary institution for the first time;

• an admission average of 90% or higher;

• an offer of admission to full-time studies starting in fall 2023.
