The University of Guelph has been ranked 16th in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022, signifying it makes positive, sustainable impacts on society.
The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings assess the success of over 1500 universities from more than 100 countries when it comes to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals as prescribed by the United Nations.
U of G president Dr. Charlotte Yates said: “This ranking is a tremendous recognition of the many innovative ways students, staff, faculty, alumni and partners are improving life through teaching, learning, research and related academic initiatives.
“Across our campuses, U of G community members are committed to helping realize the UN Sustainable Development Goals and to contributing to a more equitable, sustainable and compassionate world.”
The University of Guelph earned high points for almost six goals out of the 17 that the SDGs outline. These goals are: No Poverty (Rank- 4th), Zero Hunger (Rank-5th), Life Below Water (Rank-7th), Clean Water and Sanitation (Rank-11th), Partnership for the Goals (Rank-28th), and Life on Land (43rd).
In 2020, the University became one of the first in the country to commit to full divestment of holdings with fossil fuel reserves in the endowment fund. In 2019, the University also committed to reducing its carbon footprint in the endowment fund by 10% over two years.
