Selkirk College is one of British Columbia's oldest rural community colleges which was established in 1966. Selkirk College continues to provide innovative and unique learning opportunities to over 2,700, and 600 international, full-time students across its 60 nationally accredited programs.

According to the Selkirk College Student Engagement Survey 2018, 76% of students admitted that Selkirk College was their first choice and 88% welcomed it.

Services for International Students

More than 600 international students from 34 countries around the world add to the cultural mix and excitement of student life at Selkirk College. Selkirk College offers a wide range of English language, university transfer and career programs that are ideal for undergrads.

Dedicated faculty, staff and employees offer services to help you with career, academic and personal counselling, Co-op Education & Employment Services, Accessibility Services for students with disabilities, Indigenous Services, Selkirk International, Healthy Campus and Tutoring Services.

Ranking

The annual "Canada's Top 50 Research Colleges" list released in 2021 shows that Selkirk College rose to 33rd (from 39th), which measures sponsored research income across the country. Selkirk College has also been ranked second in the province by the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).

Accommodation

Selkirk College has two student accommodation buildings that can house 250 students in total. Student accommodation at the Castlegar campus offers 100 beds, and the Nelson Tenth Street campus provides 109 beds. Development of new student accommodation is underway as the College continues to grow.

Kekuli House in Castlegar and the Tenth Street campus in Nelson are within five minutes of classrooms, sports facilities, libraries, dining facilities and outdoor recreation. An additional building at the Castlegar campus provides 112 new beds and 36 beds in a new building at the Silver King campus in Nelson. Students can choose off-campus housing by searching for their apartments in local newspapers and online classifieds.

The Mary Hall building on Nelson's Tenth Street Campus includes a gymnasium, weight room, and Cube Climbing Centre.

About Location

Selkirk College has nine campuses, including the Learning Centre and the Centre for Applied Research and Innovation. All sites are located in the West Kootenay and Kootenay Border regions with breathtaking natural surroundings.

Locations in the West Kootenay and Border Regions of British Columbia include Castlegar, Nelson (4 precincts), Trail, Nakusp, Grand Forks, and Kaslo.

An extensive walking trail system surrounds the Castlegar campus. The campus also has a gymnasium with a climbing wall, squash court and weight room. Selkirk Gymnasiums on the Castlegar and Tenth Street campuses offer fitness clubs and classes and are equipped with drop-in sports.
