Scholarships at University of Manitoba

These scholarships are offered to students who are entering university for the first time on the basis of the full International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Students who have already received a University of Manitoba Entrance Scholarship which is equal to or greater than the amount in their IB tier listed above will not receive any further funding. Students whose UM Entrance Scholarship amount is lower than their IB tier will receive an award for the difference.

• Completion of the full diploma program, including completion of the course Theory of Knowledge, the extended essay and involvement in volunteer work through the CAS (extra-curricular, community services activities) component.

• A minimum grade of 4 or better on each of the three higher level and the three subsidiary level papers.

Eligibility criteria:

Recipients must be entering Canada on study permits and have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.5 based on their last 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study or last equivalent two full years.

Value: Variable: up to the amount of the international student differential tuition fee.

 Eligibility criteria:

A variable number of scholarships will be offered to graduate students who: (1) are international students (i.e. those in Canada on study permits) (2) are enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in either: (a) the second year of a Master's program with a two-year fee structure; (b) the second year of a Ph.D. program with a two-year fee structure; or (c) the second or third year of a Ph.D. program with a three-year fee structure (3) are paying the international student differential tuition fee; (4) have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5 based on their last 60 credit hours of study (or equivalent) or last equivalent two years; (5) show great promise as researchers and as graduate students; (6) are not recipients of external award funding that pays for their tuition. This scholarship may be held with the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) and other awards offered by the University of Manitoba, but may not be held in conjunction with the International Graduate Student Entrance Scholarship or the International Graduate Student Bursary. Students may be considered for this scholarship in each year of eligible study. Students who are enrolled in a re-registration year and are paying only continuing fees are not eligible for consideration.

The International Undergraduate Student Entrance Scholarship was established to reward academic excellence by international students graduating from international high schools and entering studies at the University of Manitoba.

Scholarships will be offered to students who:

• are international students (i.e. in Canada on valid study permits) who have applied for admission to any Faculty or School at the University of Manitoba by the deadline date of March 1;

• are paying the international student tuition fee rates;

• have achieved a minimum high school average of 85% based on the best five senior level academic courses from our approved General Entrance Scholarship list.

The value of each award is set each year in tiers based on high school grade averages. As an example, for the year 2023-2024 the award values were as follows:

• Averages greater than or equal to 95% -  $3,000

• Averages greater than or equal to 90% -  $2,000

• Averages greater than or equal to 85% -  $1,000

The International Undergraduate Student Scholarship was established to reward excellence in scholastic achievement by international students at The University of Manitoba.

Scholarships are offered to international students who:

• are in Canada on valid study permits;

• who have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours in any Faculty or School at the University of Manitoba;

• show exceptional academic achievement on courses completed in the last regular academic session (minimum sessional grade point average of 3.5);

• are continuing in the next consecutive year of full-time undergraduate study in their program during the Fall/Winter academic session, in a minimum of 24 credit hours.

Those meeting the above criteria will be ranked by sessional grade point average and scholarships will be offered until all available funds are exhausted or the grade point standard is reached. Eligible recipients will be notified by the end of July.

The University of Manitoba recognizes those students who enter the University of Manitoba with a minimum 95% high school final average (based on the courses used for entrance scholarship purposes) as President’s Scholars.

President’s Scholars will be eligible for a number of benefits, such as: scholarship funding of $1,000 in each second, third and fourth years of study (providing they meet renewal criteria), priority registration and notation on the university transcript.

High school and first year student eligibility

To be designated a President’s Scholar, first year students:

• Must have applied for admission to the University of Manitoba by March 1 and be admitted to any direct entry program at the University of Manitoba with a minimum final grade 12 average of 95% based on the five courses used for entrance scholarship purposes.

• Must be enrolled as full-time students with a minimum 24 credit hours in any faculty or school at the University of Manitoba during the Fall/Winter academic session.

President's Scholar renewals

To renew a President’s Scholarship in the second, third and fourth years of study, students:

• Must complete their first, second and third years of study with a minimum degree grade point average of 4.0 based on coursework completed during the regular academic sessions.

• Must continue into the next consecutive year of study as a full-time student with a minimum 24 credit hours.

Eligibility criteria:

has successfully completed high school or a post secondary degree and has been recommended by Terik Essential Programs Agency for Development (TEPAD); (2) meets the requirements for admission to University 1 or any faculty, college, or school at the University of Manitoba; (3) is enrolled full-time (minimum 80% course load), in the first year of study, in either University 1 or the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management; (4) has demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to sport that furthers his or her personal aspirations and the community.

Description:

(for international students who are enrolled full-time or part-time in any undergraduate faculty or school at the University, are members of UMSU in excellent academic standing who have enhanced student life at the University of Manitoba)

Eligibility criteria:

Minimum DGPA of 3.0. Recipients must be actively involved in one or more student initiatives, campaigns, or organizations and provide two letters of recommendation.
