Eligibility criteria

• Applicants from Iran will be given first preference for the award, with international students being considered if there are no Iranian candidates. 

• Students with first-class academic standing (>3.7/4.3)  in their last two years of academic study may apply. Preference is given to students who have not yet started their degree or are in the first year of their PhD program at the time of application.

• Students enrolled in a master’s program at the time of application are not eligible to apply.

• Students who have applied to master’s programs are eligible to apply.

• Students who are enrolled in or have applied to doctoral programs are eligible to apply.

Description

The Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) provides scholarships to students intending to pursue doctoral studies abroad. Dalhousie is a preferred host institution for CSC scholarship holders, with over a decade of experience supporting students funded through the CSC program.

CSC provides up to four years of funding for up to 20 new PhD students each year, during which time each student's Dalhousie supervisor will also provide funding to cover tuition & incidental fees.

Eligibility criteria

The CSC online application period typically opens in March of each year. As part of the CSC application process, you are required to be accepted into a Dalhousie PhD program with all academic and English language requirements having been met. Your admission may be conditional upon successful receipt of the CSC scholarship.

International tuition fees

Students who are not Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents are also required to pay an additional International Tuition Fee. Some programs are exempt, including International and Qualifying Dentistry, Internetworking and incoming Doctorate students.

Dalhousie awards Killam Predoctoral Scholarships on a competitive basis to outstanding graduate students in thesis-based programs (Master's or Doctoral level) in any discipline in the sciences, engineering, humanities, and social sciences. Candidates are selected from the Harmonized Scholarship Process based on departmental support and the results of the university-level review process.

Eligibility criteria

• Awards are open to both Canadian and international students

• As applicants must be eligible to receive scholarship support for at least two years, only master’s students who have yet to begin their program may apply

• You must also apply for funding from relevant provincial, national and/or international agencies, such as NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR, NSHRF, etc.

Description

The Nova Scotia Graduate Scholarship program provides over $3 million per year in funding to research graduates at Dalhousie for innovative work aligned with or advancing Nova Scotia priorities. 

PhD students may hold NSGS Doctoral funding for up to 48 months, but not past the end of their fourth year in program. The time in program for the purpose of funding eligibility for students transferring from a master’s to a PhD is determined based on the effective transfer date. 

Eligibility criteria

• You must not be currently enrolled in a thesis-based doctoral program (i.e. you have yet to begin your program).

• Your intended research aligns with one or more of the research priorities as identified by the province of Nova Scotia. See above for guidelines of priority research areas.

Description

The Nova Scotia Graduate Scholarship program provides over $3 million per year in funding to research graduates at Dalhousie for innovative work aligned with or advancing Nova Scotia priorities. The objectives of this award are to attract and retain top-quality research graduates, as well as to encourage exploration, discovery, and innovation in research priority areas for Nova Scotia.

Master’s students may hold NSGS funding for up to 24 months, but not past the end of their second year in program. Master’s students who plan to transfer to a PhD at Dalhousie without completing their thesis may continue to hold NSGS funding at the master’s level for the original eligible duration of the award.

• You must not be currently enrolled in a thesis-based master’s program (i.e. you have yet to begin your program).

• Your intended research aligns with one or more of the research priorities as identified by the province of Nova Scotia. See above for guidelines of priority research areas.

The Vitamin Scholarship was established for activities related to vitamin products (including vitamins A, B1, B2 B3, B4, B5, B6 B8, B9, B12, C, E, H, beta carotene, canthazanthin, methionine, and products containing or derived from vitamins, including animals that consumed vitamins) such as food and nutritional research or education, food-related programs, and/or consumer services or consumer protection activities.

• Canadian and international students are eligible to apply.

• You must be enrolled in a thesis-based program with research related to vitamins and/or vitamin-related products.

• You have spent less than eight months in your program as of May 1 of the current academic year.

Value: $19,000 per year for one year

Description

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships program is designed to support world-class students pursuing doctoral degrees at Canadian universities. The scholarship awards $50,000 per year for three years. The program is open to both Canadian and international students. You must be nominated by the Canadian university at which you plan to study. Up to 166 scholarships will be awarded annually. 

Eligibility criteria

• You must be pursuing doctoral studies. You may have already started your program or will begin your program in the future.

• Canadian and international students are eligible.

• You must be nominated by Dalhousie. 

• Selection criteria considers academic excellence, research potential and leadership.
