Scholarships at Capilano University

Award Description:

Capilano Excellence Scholarships (CAPX) are the premier entrance scholarships awarded by Capilano University. These scholarships are awarded to high school graduates (or equivalent) who have demonstrated excellence in academics and other endeavors and who have shown leadership in their school and community.

The scholarships are valued at up to $56,000 and are in the form of a domestic tuition and tuition surcharge fee waiver for a full academic year of studies (up to $14,000 per year) and are renewable for up to three additional academic years (total of eight terms).

Up to ten of these scholarships are awarded annually.

Note: Applicants must have graduated from high school a maximum of eighteen (18) months prior to the start of their program.

• Minimum high school GPA of 3.5 (80%), as determined by the University.

• Open to international students.

• Demonstrated leadership skills.

• Community involvement.

• Registration in a minimum of 12 credits at the 100 level or higher at Capilano University in the fall term following the scholarship selection or in the term during which the student's program starts if other than the fall term.

Scholarship Renewal Eligibility Criteria:

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.

• Undertake studies of 12 credits or more each term (at the 100 level or higher) at Capilano University.

Award Description:

Faculty from the Music Therapy program, along with alumni and members of the local music therapy community, have established this scholarship in memory of Gordon Hewitt. Gordon was a graduate of the Music Therapy program, an accredited music therapist and activist. Recipients of this scholarship are acknowledged for their leadership, clinical excellence and community mindedness.

Selection Criteria:

• Full-time enrolment in the Music Therapy program.

• Open to International students.

• Selection based on leadership, clinical experience, and sense of community within or outside the University.

Award Description:

Evelyn Hildebrant was a gentle and passionate woman working in the health care industry. She was a social activist and loved science fiction. She died at the age of 34. This scholarship is given in her honour to a Music Therapy student who demonstrates teamwork, compassion and excellence in the classroom and their practicum.

• Current enrolment in the Bachelor of Music Therapy Program at Capilano University.

• Open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students.

• Exemplary teamwork and excellence in the practicum and classroom.

• Compassion to classmates and clients.

Award Description:

Capilano University established this entrance award to support international students who have been actively involved in their schools and who are positioned to be engaged members of the Capilano University community.

Selection Criteria:

• International student.

• Application to a Capilano University undergraduate program, English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program, or EAP pathway program.

• Demonstrated engagement and involvement in school initiatives and activities.

• Minimum entrance award eligibility criteria as established by Capilano University, unless otherwise stated above.

Award Description:

Jim was a loving husband, supportive father, and someone who valued faith, family, and community. Jim left Canada in his later years to obtain his MA and PhD. He returned to Canada to continue his work. This award supports students enrolled in a music therapy program who demonstrate academic excellence.

Selection Criteria:

• Current enrolment in a music therapy program at Capilano University.

• Preference for an international student(s).
