Founded as Cariboo college in 1970, Thompson Rivers University (TRU) moved to McGill Road and became a university college in 1989 and began offering bachelor's degree programs to students from all over Canada and the world. The University is accredited by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skill and Training of British Columbia.

In total, the University offers 140+ diplomas/certificates, bachelor's, master's, trades, and research programs along with 60+ distance learning programs. More than 20,000 students, of which 15,000 are international, are enrolled across its two campuses in Kamloops and Williams Lake.

Services for International Students

Along with financial aid, scholarships, and student awards, the University provides emergency funding for students who face unforeseen financial problems that could affect their ability to continue their studies.

Accommodation

Thompson Rivers University’s Kamloops campus offers residences to over 1,200 students across its North Tower, McGill Housing, East Village and West Gate dormitories. All the residences have wireless internet, a desk, bed, a kitchen area, common lounges and laundry facilities. However, West Gate residences have a private self-contained room without lounge and laundry facilities.

There are no guaranteed accommodations for international students, but the University can place the students in local homestays.

About Location

Thompson Rivers University's Kamloops and Williams Lake campuses are located on the territory of Secwepemc people. It also has regional centres in Clearwater, Ashcroft, 100 Mile House, Barriere, and Lillooet. There is a Tournament Capital Center, Riverside Park, McArthur Island Park, Kenna Cartwright Park and malls around the University.

Students can reach Thompson Rivers University from Kamloops Airport in roughly 20 minutes. Students travelling via bus can board from Dalhousie and Thompson Rivers University bus stations on transit lines 2, 10, 16, 19, 22, 44, and R5. Students travelling by SkyTrain can use the Canada Line and Expo Line.
