How the University of Toronto is supporting the mental health of its students

Published 17 October 2022

From Fall 2023 students at the University of Toronto will have access to an expanded suite of mental health services focusing on helping them to successfully navigate their higher education journey.

U of T has implemented an innovative stepped-care model of mental health service that intends to give help when it is needed and in a manner that caters to the individual needs of students.

Vice-Provost, students, Sandy Welsh said: “It is wonderful to see students on campus and so happy to be back, and it’s very important for students to be back to in-person learning. At the same time, we also know that the pandemic has been hard on students.

“That’s why our student health centres have worked really hard over the past several months to be ready for the return of students to campus; to be able to see them whenever they need; and to support students with their mental health needs.”

Welsh believes that students should not hesitate to seek mental health support, whether by scheduling an appointment or by accessing digital mental health tools, or by taking advantage of the wide range of supportive programmes offered by the University.
