Scholarships at University of Ottawa

Our Commitment

In keeping with our commitment to the French-speaking world, the University of Ottawa offers a Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship to international Francophone and Francophile students enrolled as of September 2021 in a bachelor’s or master’s program given in French, or in the French Immersion Stream. This major assistance in funding your studies reduces your tuition fees considerably.

Scholarship values per term

The value of the scholarship depends on your program and the term for which you are admitted. For example, if you enrol in the Faculty of Arts and tuition fees for international students are $21,667.54 for the Fall term (as in 2023–2024), you’ll receive a scholarship of $12,500. This means you pay $9,167.54 in tuition fees.

The Faculty of Arts awards 10 of these renewable scholarships, each valued at a total of $4,000. Applicants must be enrolled full time, and for the first time, in an undergraduate program at the Faculty of Arts and have a minimum admission average of 90%. This scholarship can be renewed for the three following years provided the student has a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 9.00 or higher at the end of a term (in at least 24 units) and is enrolled full time at the Faculty of Arts. No application is required for this scholarship.

All eligible students, including international students, are automatically considered for this award.

Description

The Faculty of Engineering awards 35 of these scholarships to students with an admission average between 95 and 100% ($5,000) or between 90 and 94.9% ($4,000). Applicants must be enrolled full time, and for the first time, in an undergraduate program at the Faculty of Engineering.

No application is required for this scholarship; all eligible students including international students are automatically considered for this award.

Description

The Faculty of Social Sciences awards a $1,500 scholarship to one or more international students enrolled full time, for the first time, in an undergraduate program at the Faculty of Social Sciences with a minimum admission average of 92%. 

The University of Ottawa is proud of its internationally diverse student body. As a result, beginning in the fall 2024 term, international students from these countries will benefit from significant reductions in their tuition fees when they study in one of the eligible undergraduate programs offered in English.

Eligibility criteria

Entrance and Excellence Scholarships: average-based renewable scholarships for students from Africa, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, South Korea, India or Bangladesh studying in English.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for these scholarships, international students must meet the following criteria:

• be a citizen of any country in Africa or one of the countries listed 

• be newly admitted in the fall 2024 term in one of the eligible undergraduate programs offered in English in one of the faculties listed

• not enrol in the French immersion stream

• have a valid study permit when classes start

• be enrolled full time.

Note: Canadian citizens with dual citizenship (Canada and another country) are not eligible since they already qualify for Canadian tuition rates.

Eligible undergraduate programs

Students from Africa, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia or Vietnam will automatically be eligible for an Entrance or Excellence renewable, average-based scholarship when they enrol in an eligible undergraduate program offered in English. Students from China or South Korea will be considered for Excellence scholarships in those same programs.

Scholarship amounts vary, depending on the admission average and the faculty offering the program.

Conditions for keeping the scholarship

International English Entrance Scholarship

Should the International English Entrance Scholarship amount change, the scholarship will be renewed at the original amount indicated in the student’s offer of admission, as long as the student continues to meet the conditions below.This scholarship can be renewed for up to 12 installments if the student meets these renewal criteria:

• Maintain full-time enrolment in the undergraduate program in which the student was admitted and enrolled.

• Have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 5.0 or higher at the end of each academic year.
