Canada High Commission in India working to reduce visa wait time and backlog

Published 08 August 2022

The Canadian High Commission in India said that it is making huge efforts to reduce the visa backlog for Indian students following an unprecedented volume of applications.

Via a series of Tweets on Thursday, the Canadian High Commission said that thousands of students have been receiving their visas every week, and continuing this momentum, it will keep making efforts to further reduce the wait time against the  volume of applications that are being received by the High Commission.

The current processing time for issuing study permits globally is around 12 weeks. The High Commission said: “While processing times in India have been higher during 2022, we are making all the efforts to reduce this wait time in our services on a global level.”

The High Commission has also urged the students awaiting the outcome of their visa applications at the current stage to contact their Designated Learning Institutions in Canada, to discuss options if they are unable to reach their Institutions to join the classes on time due to the high waiting times.
