Overview

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), formerly Northwest Community College, is an accredited, publicly-funded post-secondary educational institution mainly serving the communities of British Columbia’s northwest region. The college is a member of the Colleges and Institutes of Canada (CiCan) and the University of the Arctic network. With five regional campuses, the college has been serving around 34 communities, 21 of which are First Nation Communities. 

Established in 1975, CMTN currently offers college access programs, health and human services programs, university credit programs, and trades foundation and apprenticeship programs, all running in small class sizes. Through online and flexible mobile training modules, the college also reaches communities far beyond the reach of its physical campuses.

The college aims to be the best choice for experiential and place-based learning that allows students to learn in the classrooms and the spectacular outdoor spaces that are a unique aspect of this region of Canada.

Accommodation

The student housing option at Coast Mountain College is currently available only in one campus location. Student housing is a supportive and close community of students wherein everyone has rights and responsibilities that enable the community to live, learn and grow during their academic journey. The Terrace campus has a three-storey housing building open for students named Wii Gyemsiga Siwilaawksat. Each room in the building has a twin bed, wardrobe, nightstand, desk and chair.

About Location

The main campus of Coast Mountain College is in Terrace. Other campus locations include- Hazelton, Haida Gwaii, Smithers and Prince Rupert. Most of these locations have rugged landscapes, free-flowing rivers and outdoor spaces stimulating the mind with freshness. Programs at the college lead to sustainable careers for students, many of whom hail from the indigenous communities of Northwest British Columbia.

International students will need to transit or layover at the Vancouver (YVR) International Airport, from where they are suggested to reach Terrace (YXT), Smithers (YYD), and Prince Rupert.
